Filing and prosecuting EU and Irish Registered Designs, and in other territories via associates.
A design is the appearance of a product: its shape, pattern and colours.
An EU “Registered Community Design” (RCD) is valid for five years – can be renewed for a maximum of 25 years, for five years at a time
What the process involves
Discussing with the client the novel visual aspects of their product, developing drawings with the client, and filing at the EU Intellectual Property Office.
Who needs this service?
Technology companies who intend to protect the visual aspects of their product in addition to or instead of the functional aspects. It is particularly applicable to products which are for example moulded and for which the visual appearance will be distinctive in the market.
Often the filing and prosecution of registered designs to grant is a relatively simple process. We have found that Registered Designs are another useful tool for clients, alongside patents, to protect the visual aspects of their product and how it appears to the consumer.
